Kinderbuchladen.org takes its name from the German word for a children's bookshop, which is what this domain was about in its earlier life. Today it is an English-language reference site for parents, grandparents, teachers, and librarians in the United States who want help choosing children's books — including families raising bilingual kids who want German-language or translated titles in the mix.

The site has two parts. The Book Format Finder is a comparison table of the standard children's book formats, from board books through young adult, with the typical age ranges and page counts publishers use. The guide pages answer specific questions: which book awards are meaningful, where translated German children's literature actually shows up in American bookstores, how to match read-aloud books to a child's age, and what terms like "phonemic awareness" and "decodable" mean.

Everything here is reviewed reference material drawn from durable, publicly available sources — literacy organizations, national libraries, and award bodies — and we link to those sources on every guide page.
